ZEN+ : Simple, Direct, Effective : ZEN+ Benefits

The first thing you must master to become a ZEN Beast

By Marcus Santer

Thanks to the Fantastic Sleep February (FSF) group I hosted last month, I’ve learned a very important lesson.

Fact of the matter is I learned a ton of valuable lessons as part of the FSF group.

But this particular lesson is so huge, it has impacted my whole business.

Yeah, it’s that big.

Here’s the lesson:

Not every component in the ZEN+ Project is created equally.

Let me explain…

If we take the Zest component of ZEN+ as an example, you’ll see it’s made up of the following 4 tools:

  1. Qigong
  2. Meditation
  3. Mindfulness
  4. Fantastic Sleep

The focus of Zest is to help you to energize your life.

But out of the 4 tools in Zest, thanks to FSF, I’ve come to realise sleep is the 800lb gorilla of the group. If you get your sleep dialled in correctly you’ll notice significant benefits in all areas of your life.

Realising this I now work different with my 1-2-1 clients.

Because the quality and quantity of their sleep is the very first thing we work on together.

It’s that important.

And there’s little long-term value in getting your Exercise, Nutrition and Mindset zeroed in if your sleep is poor.

How come?

Because fantastic sleep is the foundation upon which you build a life worth loving.

Once you’ve got your sleep taken care of, then it’s time to look at the other parts of ZEN+ and that’s where the ZEN+ Wheel comes in handy – but more about that another day.

Now one of my favourite tools for getting maximum benefits from sleep in minimum time is naps.

That’s right I said naps.

Seems to me that sometime during the last 3 or 4 decades naps became seriously uncool. My thinking is because as a culture we’ve come to value energy expenditure over energy cultivation.

Which is our loss.

Because I believe the way to abundant energy is through rest.

In fact I came across new research yesterday titled: Napping Reverses Health Effects of Poor Sleep

One of the study’s authors: Brice Faraut, PHD stated:

“Our data suggests a 30-minute nap can reverse the hormonal impact of a night of poor sleep. This is the first study that found napping could restore biomarkers of neuroendocrine and immune health to normal levels.”

Hopefully this experiment will be repeated with larger randomised controlled trials in future.

But it’s still great news and yet another reason why you should include an afternoon nap into your daily routine. You’ll find more information on naps on page 121 of my book: ZEN+ The Art and Science of Living Healthier for Longer.

Anyway, naps are just one tool you can use to make sure you gain all the benefits of fantastic sleep.

There are many more and you’ll find them all in the 28-Day Sleep Solution Program I’m releasing this Monday (23rd March 2015).

Until then…

Get napping.

Bye for now

P.S. When I think of naps I always remember my Grandma.

We’d go round to see her most Saturdays and in the afternoon she’d usually be in her chair asleep.

And me being a little kid I’d shout: “Grandma, wake up!”

She’d open her eyes and say: “I wasn’t sleeping, I was just resting my eyelids.”

Bless her.

You’ll find everything you ever wanted to know about naps and much more in: The Sleep Solution, released Monday 23rd March 2015.
