It’s not always easy sticking to your guns…

Pedro was one of the original Fantastic Sleep February pioneers.

And I have to agree with his experience.

Let me give you an example.

Clarabella regularly puts off going to bed for as long as possible. Because going to bed signals the next day is coming. And when you’re involved with a challenging job, sometimes it’s nice to put that signal off for as long as possible.

It’s certainly a feeling I remember well.

Netflix doesn’t help either.

Recently we’ve been watching the US series: The Good Wife and it’s got some great story telling and some great cliff-hangers. Clarabella is a devil for suggesting we stay up to watch the next one to see what happens next.

But…

During Fantastic Sleep February I’d made The Pledge and I was determined to stick to it. So sometimes I’d have to say:

“Sorry baby, I’m off to bed. You can stay up if you like, but I’m outta here.”

And 99 times out of a 100 she’d sigh and go to bed too.

But she was always glad in the morning when she woke up feeling refreshed instead of feeling like she’d gone 10 rounds with an angry gorilla during the night.

Truth is, if you’re fortunate enough to share your home with others because you’re married, have a partner or even share your house with friends – you’re likely to meet up with resistance when you start to practice new habits.

And it’s not always easy to stick to your guns.

But if you can you’ll start to notice, like Pedro and me, that those around you start to benefit from your good habits too.

And if the person, or people, you share your home with join you in developing the sleep habit, well then you’ve got a beautiful thing. Because building new habits in a group means you can help and support each other if/when the going gets tough.

As another Fantastic Sleep pioneer Michelle from the USA put it:

“I always grow better when I’m not working alone
in a vacuum.”
