5 Simple tips to help you rise with the larks…

We’re naturally diurnal animals.

Evolved to get up when it’s light and go to sleep when it’s dark.

So during the light summer months Clarabella is frequently up with the larks.

But when the darker, colder winter months come, it’s like getting a grumpy, grizzly bear out of bed in a morning.

Personally, I seem to be a bit of a grizzly all year round.

I rarely jump out of bed with the larks without exerting a massive amount of will power.

But the fact is, I do get up at 6am most mornings.

So if I find it such a struggle, why do I do it?

Because I like getting a head start on each day.

I find my creative juices flow easier and with greater quality. By 1pm they’ve usually pretty much dried up.

So if you’re anything like me – someone who naturally struggles to get out of bed – how do you do it?

These are 5 simple tips I follow on a daily basis:

  1. I go to bed early the night before – I like to make sure I get a good solid 8 hours.
  2. Remove stimulation – 30 minutes before turning the light off, I ban all electronic gadgets to help my brain slow down.
  3. I prepare – I make sure my clothes for the morning are all ready and laid out. So all I have to do is roll out of bed and get dressed. No struggling to find socks and stuff.
  4. I don’t snooze – Once the alarm goes off, that’s it. Roll over get out of bed. Think about doing it, tell yourself you can allow an extra 5 minutes and there’s a good chance you’re doomed. Snoozing does you no good anyway.
  5. I nap – Yes, it turns out my Grandmother was right about this. A short nap in the afternoon can do wonders for attention and alertness. Just don’t over do it. Personally I find more than 30 minutes can mess up my main night sleep.

Follow these tips and you’ll be joining the larks all year around.

Is it worth it?

Sure is.

How come?

Because when you get up earlier than you need to and use that time to:

Basically do something that enriches your life it’s hard to explain in words. But it gives you a real feeling of being in charge, of being a human being, of directing your life.

Plus it allows you to start your day with a win.

And I don’t know about you, but I’ve found how I start my day has a massive influence on how the rest of the day is likely to turn out.
