Two reasons why you buy information and do nothing with it

As a teacher, I spend a big chunk of my time coming up with ways to help clients and students quickly get to grips with what they’re learning.

Helping them to score mini-victories.

Because the quicker you start to see some benefit from what you’re doing, the more likely you are to stick with it.

But I never cease to be amazed at the number of folk who buy stuff and do nothing with it at all.

I’ve pondered on this long and hard and found two reasons:

Reason 1: Itch Scratch – Try this mental exercise… You’re stood in the queue at the post office and you get an itch on your cheek. What do you do? Scratch it.

Simple.

I think a lot of people who buy information fall into this category. They want to:

And so on.

But they just kinda want it.

It’s just an itch.

And the very act of buying information on an itchy subject seems to have the effect of scratching that itch.

Job done.

For now.

Because the itch always seems to come back again…

Reason 2: The Lag – There’s always going to be a lag between embarking on a journey to acquire a new skill or outcome and arriving at your destination.

Always.

And the amount of lag you’re going to encounter depends on a number of variables including:

Trouble is, I don’t think most people realise any of this.

So they buy information with great hopes and high expectations and give up too soon.

You know what?

Thinking about it now it’s amazing anyone who buys information on something succeeds with it.

But luckily for you, I’m here to share this wisdom with you.

And now that I’ve just told you the two reasons people fail to get the results they want from the information they buy… If you’ll arm yourself with this wisdom you’re in a much better position to succeed.

How come?

Because the next time you’re tempted to buy information, you’ll stop and ask yourself this question:

“Am I serious about this? Or am I just scratching an itch?”

And if you pass the Itch Test and decide to continue, you’re now in a position to realise that there is going to be Lag between starting and getting the benefits you want.

In this instance, knowledge is power.

And I’m sharing this with you today because frankly I’m sick and tired of seeing ads for products promising you everything under the sun and making out it’s easy to do.

Stop being a sucker.

You might have been born at night, but it wasn’t last night right?

I believe you can have whatever you’re willing to roll your sleeves up and work your arse off for.

And if you’re not prepared to invest some sweat, save your money.

You see, 12 years of teaching folk Qigong and more recently ZEN+ has taught me to recognise those who are most likely to succeed. It’s those folk who have their hair on fire.

They’re not scratching an itch and they don’t care how long it’s going to take, they’re determined to put the fire out.

I know it’s not a popular message compared to the usual type of marketing B.S. your bombarded daily with.

But it’s honest.

I think it’s linked to homoeostasis – a desire to try and maintain a stable equilibrium.

Which is great for all the internal systems and processes inside your body that work in balance to maintain body temperature and all that other good stuff that keeps you alive.

But it’s not so great when it keeps you stuck in habits that no longer benefit you.
