What every ZEN Beast should know about washboard abs

I finally got around to having my eyes tested yesterday.

It’s only taken me 8 years.

You know how it is…

1 day rolls into the next and before you know it nearly a decade’s passed.

But after what I shared about stroke I realised prevention really is better than cure.

And an eye test won’t just tell you whether you need glasses or a change to your old prescription or not. It can also highlight other important health matters long before any symptoms show up.

Like:

And as I’m sure you know, the quicker something is picked up, the better your chance of treating it.

But as I sat in reception waiting to see the optician my mind started to play tricks.

Trying to wind me up with statements like:

“Oh, it’s been a long time Marcus, I bet they find something bad.”

And:

“Man, you spend 8 to 10 hours most days sat in front of that huge iMac screen, that’s bound to have caused serious damage.”

Accepting that I felt a little nervous and acknowledging I would manage whatever the result was I took back control of my mind and decided to distract myself by looking at the magazines on the table in front of me.

Hmm.

Not since my last visit to the dentist have I seen such an old collection of National Geographic’s.

So I rifled through the other magazines.

One of the headlines on an ancient men’s lifestyle mag caught my attention, something about building abs that show.

Personally I find the whole obsession with the abdominal muscles a bit of mystery.

But there’s no deny their popularity.

Flicking through the magazines crusty pages I was greeted with a load of photographs featuring a model doing a various range of exercises.

Clearly those exercises worked because the model had a stomach you could bounce a penny off it.

I’m saying that tongue in cheek.

Because I might have missed it, but I didn’t see any mention of the most important ab exercise you need to do for a stomach that makes birds fall from the sky.

And what’s that you ask?

It’s how much exercise your mouth gets eating food that counts.

Because there’s no point doing all those fancy exercises if the results are hidden under a layer of fat is there?

No Marcus, there isn’t.

So here’s what every ZEN Beast – boy or girl – needs to know about washboard abs:

The abdominal muscles are built by callisthenics
and revealed by what you do in the kitchen.

And that’s really all there is to it.

No secrets.

No gizmo’s

And no supplements.

Just hard work.

P.S. Much to my surprise (and relief) my eye check went swimmingly well.

A slight change in my prescription is all.

So looks like I’m going to have to go through the agony of choosing some new goggles.

Ugh.
