From 7am to 7pm Clarabella has BBC radio 4 playing in the kitchen.

Even when she’s not in the house.

I know, I know.

And I was in the kitchen a few weeks back making coffee and not listening to the radio.

Whilst my coffee sat brewing I did some shoulder stretches.

And that’s when I heard something that made me prick up my ears.

It was the quote above.

I committed it to memory as best as I could and ran around looking for a pen so I could put it down on paper before I forgot.

Now then…

The quote was from Peugeot boss Carlos Tavares and it’s in reference to them taking over Opel and Vauxhall here in Europe. And concerns that they will shut down plants and people will lose their jobs.

But it got me thinking.

Life is a competitive environment.

Your body is constantly fighting for survival against factors in your environment that want to grind you into dust.

It’s not personal, it’s just life.

And whilst life wants to live, all life wants to live.

I can’t think of a more competitive environment than life.

And Carlos’s response to how the various car plants in Europe can survive is through performance.

He went on to say: “… if you increase your level of performance, you become the best, if you become the best there is no risk.”

Well, I believe in life there is always risk, but by increasing your performance you can certainly minimise it.

And how do you increase your performance?
