Die Farting?

By Marcus Santer

The Saturday Quote:

“He that lives upon hope, dies farting.”
Benjamin Franklin

This quote is taken from the 1736 publication of Poor Richard’s Almanack.

In 1758 the book was republished and this time it was changed to:

“He that lives upon hope, dies fasting.”

I prefer the first version myself.

What’s this got to do with anything?

Well it’s the 4th of July and my inbox is already starting to fill up with all the wonderful offers and bargains I can take up to celebrate American Independence.

And my facebook, twitter and instagram accounts are being flooded with patriotic misquotes from the founding fathers.

So here’s the thing about quotes…

Many of them are BS.

My favourite misquoted character has to be Buddha.

In fact there’s a great site called: Fake Buddha Quotes dedicated solely to the subject.

Because so many quotes are fake, before I share a quote I always do 3 things:

  1. Do my best to check it’s authenticity – Einstein quotes can be a real minefield
  2. Check the character of the person out – Quite a few speakers of famous quotes aren’t people you’d want to be associated with.
  3. Have some kind of relevance to the ZEN+ project

Of course I don’t always get it right.

But you can rest assured some thought went into.

And it’s the same with everything I share.

Even more so these days.

The conversation I had a few months ago with Emma Allen-Vercoe – a scientist on the cutting edge of gut micro-flora and health – taught me that science deals with uncertainty. It’s the mainstream press and media that turn it into certainty and misinformation.

So I do my best only to share information, tips and techniques you can trust.

My message today?

Take everything with a healthy pinch of salt until you’ve done your own homework.

Don’t believe something is true simply because it’s in a book or on the Internet.

Deal?

Okay.

And because I’m running a business and not a charity…
