Are you a part of the Cult of Ignorance?

By Marcus Santer

ignorance

My favourite quote from this weeks research:

“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’”
Isaac Asimov
A cult of ignorance’ Newsweek January 1980

I don’t know about you, but I used to think that calling someone ignorant was quite an insult.

But a few years ago I realised that to be ignorant simply meant you were:

Lacking knowledge, information or awareness
about something in particular.

As my dictionary explains it.

Last week I was talking to a friend and ended up apologising for my ignorance about climate change and global warming.

I used to think it was a load of BS.

Why?

Because like most ignorant people I simply went with the voice telling me what I preferred to hear.

Think about it.

Would you prefer climate change to be nonsense made up by over zealous environmental scientists?

Or…

Would you prefer it to be the biggest serious threat to our continued presence on this planet, a threat that if we don’t do something radical, very soon, we won’t be able to do anything about?

In the presence of ignorance I know which I preferred to believe.

But it doesn’t take much digging to get rid of this ignorance and realise the uncomfortable truth.

Now this post isn’t about climate change…

… I simply wanted to give you an example of how ignorance works.

That in the absence of knowledge people will choose to believe all manner of things.

Because it’s what they want to believe.

But whilst you’re free to believe what you want, you’re not free to escape the consequences.

And when it comes to living longer and ageing better…

…There’s still a lot of ignorance out there.

Which is why, in spite of being able to sum up the Healthy Ageing Pyramid in 48 words, I continue to write about it.

Why?

Because it’s ignorance that makes people continue to waste their time, energy and money on useless gizmo’s, gadgets and supplements.

You see, when it comes to living longer with better health, there really are no secrets.

I’ve done all the digging, sifted through all the research and condensed it down into the seven habits you don’t want to be ignorant about.

I’ve ranked them in order of importance and created what I call The Healthy Ageing Pyramid (The HAP).

The HAP will give you:

I’m still working on the HAP book and it’s on schedule for publication January 2017, in the meantime…

Get yourself a copy of this.

Bye for now
