ZEN+ : Helping you Stay Young and Age Well

My visit to hospital yesterday

By Marcus Santer

So I was at the hospital yesterday.

All because of a naughty wisdom tooth my dentist wanted a second opinion on.

I always wrestle with the experience, because on the one hand I’m amazed at how many sick and ill people there are and on the other I’m amazed that all of this is available for free.

Well, free as long as you pay your taxes and government contributions.

The NHS might not be perfect but I’m a fan.

Yesterday I got to meet:

All in under 90 minutes.

If I didn’t have so much work on, it would almost have been an enjoyable experience.

I mean, how often do you get to see an X-ray of your teeth and jaws and get to have all manner of interesting features and facts pointed out.

I wanted to ask if I could take a photograph of my X-ray on the dentists screen, but my British reserve kept me in check.

Moving on…

I looked around me as I walked to the various departments I had to go to and I couldn’t help wondering how many of my fellow patients really had to be there? And it got me thinking about Air Crash Investigation and how unwanted events are rarely the result of a single action.

  1. You don’t get obese and all the health problems associated with it by eating one doughnut.
  2. You don’t get various cancers, heart disease or stroke from smoking one cigarette .
  3. You don’t lose strength and mobility from one day without exercise.

If only they’d made different lifestyle choices

Because what you put into your body and what you do with and to your body on a regular basis… Has a H–U–G–E impact on what illness, sickness, disease you’re likely to encounter later on.

I was genuinely shocked whilst doing the research for my ZEN+ book to discover that many of the biggest killers:

  1. Cancer
  2. Diabetes
  3. Heart disease
  4. Lung disease

Are largely avoidable with the right lifestyle choices.

Warning: Health, vitality and longevity is a game of odds. There are no certainties and no guarantees. You could have the best lifestyle in the world and still get a life threatening illness.

This is life and life isn’t fair.

So making and sticking to the right lifestyle choices is all about stacking the odds in your favour.

Simple as that.

Anyone who suggests otherwise should be avoided like the plague.

And if you need help and guidance making the right lifestyle choices to stack the odds of living and ageing well in your favour…
