Are you asking the right questions?

By Marcus Santer

questions are powerful

The Saturday Quote:

“We live in the world
our questions create.”
David Cooperrider

Questions are powerful.

They influence your life more than you probably realise.

Think about it, consider these two questions:

  1. Why do I keep failing to (fill in the blank)?
  2. What can I do to get better at (fill in the blank)?

The focus of the first question isn’t likely to give you helpful answers, they’re unlikely to make you feel good.

But the focus of the second question is likely to help you move forward.

Ask and you shall receive answers.

Just make sure you’re asking the right kinds of questions.

How come?

Because poor questions can move you further away from the life you want while good questions can move you closer to it.

Here’s an example of the power of asking the right questions.

On the 25th June 2016, I came across some great questions whilst listening to an interview with author Seth Godin, here they are:

  1. Q: Are you able to say one new thing every day you’re prepared to stand behind?
  2. Q: What’s the impact you want to make?
  3. Q: Who are the people you seek to serve?
  4. Q: What do they need or want from you?

They really got under my skin and every day since I’ve been writing down one thing I noticed and wanted to say. Many of the posts I write for you come from answering question one.

I regularly revisit questions two and three.

And I’m still trying to work out the answer to question four.

Now here’s an important point about questions…

Whilst getting answers is nice, it’s chewing on quality questions, over and over that can really help you to gain clarity, direction and purpose for your life.

Whilst we’re on the subject of questions, do you want to know another question I’ve got on ‘speed dial’?

Okay then, it’s from the book: The One Thing by Gary Kellar, here it is:

As a self-employed dude, this question certainly helps to keep me on task and stop getting lost in the infinity of time wasting that is the Internet.

Here’s another question I’ve been applying the answer to since asking it on 4th January 2016
I call it: The fascinating question that can make you a world class expert.

So what do you think?

Because I’ve noticed that:

  1. Asking the right kind of questions…
  2. Finding quality answers…
  3. And then getting to work…

Really does have the power to change your life for the better.

Just make sure you’re asking the right questions on a regular basis.

Bye for now

Marcus

P.S. If the questions you want quality answers to involve subjects like…

Then this is a great place for you to get started.
