ZEN+ : Helping you Stay Young and Age Well

I’m still a little shocked…

By Marcus Santer

I’m still a bit shocked to be honest.

I finally managed to get an electrician around yesterday to see if my shower can be fixed.

It hasn’t worked since just before Christmas.

Don’t worry, we have a bath that still works =)

After taking a look at the shower the electrician went downstairs and had a look in the main circuit board.

He couldn’t believe what he saw.

Neither could I.

As he took the last screw out of the panel and lifted it off we both immediately saw the problem.

A charred blacken cable sticking out of one of the sockets.

You can see a piece of it below note: it ‘should’ have a red plastic jacket around it..

He raised his eyebrows and went quiet for a bit.

I – with my talent for understatement – said: “I’m guessing that’s not good right?”

He said we’d been lucky there hadn’t been a fire.

Long story short…

He took care of the immediate safety problem and he’s booked in to come back in a few weeks to fix it all.

Now this got me thinking.

You never know when some time bomb is going to go off and burn your house down or cause massive damage.

When it happens to your house, that’s bad luck.

But if the same thing happens to your body, that’s probably on you.

Sound a bit harsh?

Well Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD’s) are responsible for 38 million deaths around the world.

Here’re some ‘key facts’ on NCD’s taken from this page on the World Health Organisations website (January 2015):

These 4 groups of diseases account for 82 percent of all NCD deaths.

According to the World Health Organisation 2014 stats, NCD’s are the leading cause of death world wide.

And you know what makes my blood boil about all of this?

If you’re lucky enough to have won ‘The Lottery of Life’ and live in the west then these NCD’s are ‘largely avoidable’.

Because almost three quarters (28 million) NCD deaths happen in low and middle income countries.

Bottom line: Where you live and your habits determine your life span – More than the genes you inherited.

I’ll look at this subject in more detail tomorrow.

But for now, simply realise that:

And your social connections.

Are all things you can actively control and improve if necessary to increase your odds of living a longer, healthier and happier life.

It’s up to you.

Now in my opinion skills based Qigong is the most powerful and efficient – non drug – way to handle the stresses and strains you and I face on a daily basis.

And in February I’m leading a Cosmic Shower online coaching class.

Think of it as stress management PLUS.

And you can find out more about the class here.

Bye for now

P.S. Yesterday was one of those days I was glad to see the back of.

Now that’s a pretty packed day for me.

So you can imagine my reaction when – unwinding with Clarabella in front of the TV – half of one of my teeth dropped out of my mouth whilst eating a slice of bread.

I tell ya…

It’s days like these that make me glad I practice Cosmic Shower.

And if you qualify, perhaps you’d like to learn it too?

More details here.
