ZEN+ : Helping you Stay Young and Age Well

How to unleash the power within you

By Marcus Santer

I believe you came into this world fully loaded.

Like a seed.

Let me explain by telling you about a 2,000 year old artefact found by archaeologists in 1963 – 65.

During a dig at Masada, a fortress in Israel, they found some date palm seeds stored in a drawer. 40 years later a horticulturist called Elaine Solowey succeeded in sprouting one of the seeds.

Pretty impressive don’t you think?

But wait, it gets better.

In 2012 scientific journals buzzed with the news that a 32,000 year old plant had been brought back to life.

Yes, really.

Russian scientists discovered a seed cache of Silene stenophylla, a flowering plant native to Siberia, which had been buried beneath the permafrost – a thick subsurface layer of soil that remains below freezing point the whole year.

By taking cells from the placenta – the plants seed producing organ – they were able to grow 3 of them and produce 36 plants that produced seeds of their own.

So what’s this got to do with you?

These two scientific marvels demonstrate what can be achieved when a seed is exposed to the right environment – no matter how long it has been dormant.

And I believe the same is true of you.

I don’t care how many years or decades it’s been since you felt, young, strong, fit, healthy and fully alive.

That seed is still inside you waiting to blossom.

If only you’ll provide it with the right environment for it to grow.

Yes it will take time.

Yes it will take effort.

But you know nothing of great value comes easily.

And the sooner you start providing the right environment the quicker you’ll see the results.

Listen, your body is amazing, it wants to be strong and healthy, but like any living organism it needs the right nourishment and the right environment to grow vibrantly.

And what is the right environment to nourish you?

Well, your body has evolved to thrive when you give it 4 things:

  1. An opportunity to energize properly
  2. Plenty of movement
  3. The right food
  4. Social connection

But give your body the wrong environment, in other words the opposite of the 4 things listed above…

You will pay the price.

Pardon the pun, but you reap what you sow.

Personally I believe it’s never too late to change and everything you need to know to get you started on living a happier, healthier and longer life is stored in my book: ZEN+ The Art and Science of Living Healthier for Longer.
