How to protect yourself from fake health news…

Did you see the news story doing the rounds at the start of the year about a “new organ” identified in the abdomen?

Well it’s BS.

The mesentery has been known about by doctors, researchers and anatomists for centuries. It suspends the entirety of the bowel and keeps it in place, preventing it from twisting on itself.

To be honest, I’m staggered by the amount of fake health news on the web.

In spite of what you might have seen recently in your newsfeed…

Unfortunately I could go on.

So what can you do to protect yourself against fake health news?

Cos I agree, some of it is so convincing and some of it is supported and backed up by people who you think you can trust.

According to David Colquhoun, professor of pharmacology at University College London, fake health news is most often found “in areas where conventional medicine can’t do as much as people would wish.”

And the most important step you can take to protect yourself is to involve your doctor.

If you’re suffering from an illness or chronic condition and see an article or product claiming to provide a cure, discuss it with your doctor.
