ZEN+ : Helping you Stay Young and Age Well

What Santa, the Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny and Detoxing all have in common

By Marcus Santer

Imight have told you this before…

I was 8 and it was Christmas Eve when my sister destroyed a part of my life forever.

She told me Santa Claus wasn’t real, that it was mum and dad.

Later that night, pretending to be asleep, I discovered she was right.

It was one of the most confusing Christmas’s ever.

Hey ho, there you go.

I guess you’ve got to learn the truth of these things at some point right?

I also discovered very soon after that The Tooth Fairy was a lie.

The Easter Bunny was bogus.

And a load of other mythical figures were BS too.

You know it too.

We accept these characters are fictions as we grow older.

Yet in spite of this, when it comes to health there are still many myths that people totally believe in.

One I find particularly baffling is detoxing.

Why folk still get sucked into this nonsense is beyond me.

Look, you have a LIVER.

It’s free, you’ve got one and it’s quietly working away 24 hours a day doing its job.

And what is its job?

It has many, but the main three are:

  1. Produces a vital digestive enzyme called bile
  2. Stores energy in the form of a sugar called glycogen

Your liver is the ultimate detox machine.

I think this snippet from an article in The Guardian sums it up very nicely:

“detoxing – the idea that you can flush your system of impurities and leave your organs squeaky clean and raring to go – is a scam. It’s a pseudo-medical concept designed to sell you things.”

And your liver has help in it’s detoxing job.

All do a really good job of detoxing you too.

And they’re all doing their jobs right now as you read this.

Here’s something I found interesting…

In 2009 a network of scientists contacted manufacturers of 15 products sold here in the UK claiming to detoxify. The scientists asked for evidence – you know proof – for the claims they were making. Not a single seller could define what they meant by detoxification, let alone name the toxins you were meant to be getting rid of.

Detoxing, colonic irrigation, super-foods and so on.

They’re just like Santa Claus, The Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny – fiction.

But these health fictions are even worse.

They’re all scams designed to part the uninformed from their hard-earned cash.

Look, the best detox you can follow is to adopt a health promoting lifestyle. One which helps your liver, kidneys, skin, lungs and all the other marvellous systems of your body to do their jobs easily.

Which means:

It really is that simple folks.

If you need a hand creating a health promoting lifestyle, read my book:
