The Sunday Quote…

This is what Dr Frankland told Saddam Hussein when they met in 1979:

“I don’t mind if you’re a begger or a head of state, if you’re causing your own problems there’s no point wasting my time seeing you.”

This was back in 1979.

Saddam had told him he had severe asthma and was allergic, but it turned out it was the 40 cigarettes a day that were the real problem.

Which shouldn’t come as any surprise to you.

Now you’ve probably never heard of Dr Frankland.

I know I hadn’t until last week when Clarabella sent me a link and told me to watch the video on this page:

People are always fascinated with long lived folk and like to ask them what the secret is to long life.

Luck comes up a lot.

Which is funny.

And I guess it does play a part.

Not getting run over, not being in the wrong place at the wrong time, not being in an accident…

Stuff like that which you often have no control over.

But I guess where ‘Luck’ plays its biggest roll is in your genes.

Here’s a snippet from page 18 of my book The Healthy Ageing Pyramid (The HAP) to explain why:

Research shows your genes only have a 20 to 25 percent influence on your longevity during the first 75 years of your life. The rest is heavily influenced by your lifestyle choices and environmental factors, i.e. things you can do something about. This is what the Healthy Ageing Pyramid will show you.

By your mid 80’s your genes become more important, and by the time you reach your 90’s the biggest influence on how much longer you’re going to live occurred the day your father’s sperm fertilised your mothers egg.

So yeah, I guess Dr Frankland was definitely lucky in inheriting good genes and avoiding death during the war and afterwards.

But you can’t (currently) do anything about the genes you’ve inherited from your parents.

The secret (if you can call it that) to living a long life is to simply stack the odds in your favour.

How?

By embracing and implementing those lifestyle habits proven to preserve good health.

And contrary to what anyone else might tell you…

There’s nothing secret about what they are.

You just need to do the research and separate the woo from the true.

Fortunately for you…
