ZEN+ : Simple, Direct, Effective : ZEN+ Benefits

“He’s a mean mother who’ll rip you a new A-hole”

By Marcus Santer

Early morning dog walks can be a bit tense.

It’s when most of the unsociable dogs get taken out around here.

Less doggy traffic you see.

So I tend to switch to Red Alert when I see a big dog on a lead cresting the horizon and heading straight for us.

And my heart sinks when Louis and I get closer and the owner says something like:

“Oh, he can be a bit grumpy this one.”

Because that’s normally code for:

“Keep your dog away, cos my dog is a mean mother who’ll rip you a new arsehole if you get near.”

Trouble is Louis doesn’t understand.

He loves everything and everyone.

And he seems to think that everything and everyone loves him back.

He just doesn’t seem to see the signs.

Or understand the signals.

So yesterday’s walk got a little tense down Secmaton Lane as Louis and a big Heinz 57 ended up on a collision course.

Fortunately I was able to grab Louis collar and man handle him past as the owner and I exchanged pleasantries with each other.

Just another dog walk.

But you know what?

If some sick and twisted individual past a law meaning I could only practice one type of regular daily exercise… Walking would be it.

Here’s a list of 11 benefits you can get from regular daily walks:

  1. Reduced risk of heart disease
  2. Enhanced metabolic support – The chemical processes that take place to maintain life
  3. Better weight control
  4. Increased energy
  5. Reduce blood sugar spikes
  6. Independence in old age
  7. Less physical decline
  8. Boosted endorphins
  9. Reduced risk of osteoporosis
  10. Improved balance
  11. Stronger legs

And study after study keeps confirming the benefits of walking like:

This one – Conclusion: A brisk 20 minute walk each day could be enough to reduce an individuals risk of early death (Jan 14th 2015)

This one – Conclusion: People who walk regularly in groups have lower blood pressure, resting heart rate and total cholesterol (Jan 20th 2015)

And if you want a serious read about the benefits of walking, you can download an awesome 48 page PDF from registered charity C3 who work with local organisations to improve health in communities.

So wether you walk the dog, walk in a group or walk to work – just make sure you walk.

Bye for now
