ZEN+ : Helping you Stay Young and Age Well

4, 7, 9 or 5? The Penny Finally Drops…

Whilst I was doing the research for the new ZEN+ book – the penny finally dropped.

I finally realised there aren’t any secrets to living a longer, healthier and happier life.

It’s really very simple.

And I sum it up as:

  1. Energise
  2. Move More
  3. Eat Right
  4. Cultivate Your Mind

Or ZEN+ as I like to call it.

Now, I’m not the first to isolate a few key principals to help you extend your life and your good health.

In 1965 a researcher named Lester Breslow after deep study of 6,928 people came up with the Alamada Seven:

  1. Don’t smoke
  2. Don’t drink alcohol or consume it moderately
  3. Get enough sleep
  4. Exercise regularly
  5. Maintain weight in relation to height
  6. Avoid snacks
  7. Eat breakfast regularly

Hey, I might disagree with the traditional concept of breakfast, but I’m the first to agree there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

Then you’ve got the Blue Zone studies – pockets of humanity around the planet that live longer, healthier and happier lives than everyone else.

These researchers formulated what they call The Power 9 healthy lifestyle habits:

  1. Move Naturally
  2. Know Your Purpose
  3. Down Shift
  4. 80% Rule
  5. Plant Slant
  6. Wine@Five
  7. Family First
  8. Belong
  9. Right Tribe

More recently you have the Five Simple Rules:

In 1979, 2,500 men were asked to follow five simple rules (this became known as The Caerphilly Study). Four decades on only 25 had stuck to the rules but they are miles fitter and healthier than those who quit.

And what were the five simple rules?

  1. Eat Well
  2. Work Out
  3. Drink Less
  4. Keep their weight down
  5. Never Smoke

Are you starting to see a pattern emerging?

But do you notice how they’re all variants on a similar theme?

There’s nothing new under the sun Horatio.

Just new ways of putting what works together.

How you keep your weight right, exercise, eat well and avoid stress – well that’s really up to you.

I’m not saying you have to do it the ZEN+ way.

Though is you’re smart, you will, because what I’ve done with ZEN+ is taken tried and tested teachings, made them as simple as possible (and not simpler) and adapted them so you can include them into your life with the minimum of disruption possible.

P.S. Research has shown the biggest influence on your health isn’t your genes, it’s your lifestyle habits.

What you do on a daily basis can either turn good genes off or turn bad genes on.

It’s a bit more complex than that, but it gives you the big picture.
